I have been fortunate to work with some outstanding Learning Leaders this year. They are exceptional people who are doing the great work of providing genuine educational choices for students in charter schools. What has gotten lost with the controversy with the Secretary of Education selection of Betsy De Vos, is the fact that charter schools have been around for a long time and have been providing a valuable choice for students within the Public Education system. Her support of vouchers for private education and her support for the privatization of public schools are troubling. But let's not forget that there has always been bi-partisan support for charter schools and that charter schools are no less the public's schools than are traditional, geography based public schools. Rather than geography, student interest and student learning styles can determine what school setting is best for individual students.
